1. From
the "Apple" menu in the top left
corner, select "System Preferences".
Under the "Internet & Network"
section click the "Network" icon.
2. For the pop-up list indicating
"Show:" select the "Internal
Modem" option, and click the
"TCP/IP" tab that appears below that
area. For the pop-up list titled
"Configure:" select the "Using
PPP" option.
3. Leave the fields in the "Domain
Name Servers" and "Search
Domains" sections blank.
4. Click on the "PPP" tab,
and type FireFly in the "Service
Provider" field.
5. Within the "Telephone
Number" area, type the FireFly dialup
number that is local to your area. FireFly's
dialup numbers can be found at http://www.fireflyuk.net/support
6. Within the "Account Name"
and "Password" sections, type in
your FireFly IDs exactly as they appear in
your confirmation email. Click the option for
"Save Password", and click the
"PPP Options..." button.
7. Check/Select the "Connect
automatically when starting TCP/IP
applications" option. Uncheck/Deselect
the "Prompt every xx minutes to maintain
connection" option.
8. Uncheck/Deselect the
"Disconnect if idle for xx minutes"
option, check or select the "Disconnect
when user logs out" option, and click the
OK button.
9. Click the "Proxies" tab,
uncheck all options in this area and make sure
all fields are left blank. Click on the
"Modem" tab within the same box. For
the pop-up listing titled "Modem:"
select "Apple Internal 56K Modem
(v.90)".
10. For the "Dialing:" option
select "Tone". Check the "Show
modem status in menu bar" option, and
click the "Save" button and close
the "Network" window. You've
successfully configured your Mac OS X for
dial-up access.
11. To start your Internet connection,
click the blue "Finder" icon in the
Dock.
Click the "Applications" icon in the
top toolbar, and double-click the
"Internet Connect" icon.
12. Type a local FireFly dialup number
in the "Telephone Number" area, if
one is not listed already. FireFly's dialup
numbers can be found at http://www.fireflyuk.net/support
13. Verify that your "Account
Name" and "Password" are listed
in this area, and click the
"Connect" button.
14. Once you've logged in and
successfully established your Internet
connection, the "Connect" button
will change to "Disconnect", which
you can use to close your Internet connection. |
